About us

My name is Saya, and I am the creator of Oba-Gami Origami House.

I was born and raised on a small island paradise located in the warm, southern waters of Japan. From a young age I learned to respect the beauty of nature, our island is filled with lush forests and beautiful ocean. I grew up in a very traditional Japanese home centered around art, music and dance.

My grandmother and I spent many afternoons practicing the traditional art of paper folding, origami. Our name originated as an amalgam of Obaba (grandmother) and origami.

At Oba-Gami House, I create original Art and Jewelry from the simple Origami forms I learned as a child. I decided to bring this Japanese tradition to America by way of a unique art form.

Through my work, I hope to forge a blend of eastern tradition with a western decorative appeal. While the folding techniques I use are traditional, I choose color schemes, layouts and materials best suited to my art.

All my materials are carefully selected for color and quality. I constantly strive to create new designs and patterns and have produced many custom pieces. And of course, all works are hand crafted by me. You can select your favorite gift from truly unique Origami Artwork.

Oba-Gami is a new endeavor. Watch us grow with a constantly evolving product presentation.
